I had been told that there is a different quality to the daylight on an island, and believe it to be true. It is more luminous, boundless and seems to exist on a completely different frequency, creating an ethereal spirit that is unique to an island. This contributes to the tenuous sense of existence creating a hardiness in it’s inhabitants. The space and moisture surrounding the isolated piece of land reflects a sensuous glow. I have enjoyed creating the images from three main island voyages, from Iceland in the Northern hemisphere, Madagascar in the southern hemisphere and the Galapagos straddling both.
